    Therapy for Autism

Educating yourself on which therapy and treatment are available to meet your child’s needs is one of the best parenting decisions you can make. Read about our member’s experience with 2nd.MD:

A member was reminded of the 2nd.MD service and benefits provided to her when she received a 2nd.MD mailer. As a concerned mother, she wanted to be prepared and educated on her child’s condition, so she reached out to 2nd.MD to speak with an expert in the Behavioral Health field.

Her 2-year-old child had been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The child was undergoing speech, occupational, and feeding therapy, as well as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy. However, she wanted to be certain this was the best treatment path and learn if medication should be considered.

Through a thorough review of all the medical records, the 2nd.MD specialist agreed with the local provider’s diagnosis and confirmed the therapy the child was receiving was of great value.  He also suggested she speak with her local doctor about the Greenspan Method, which could be another therapy approach for her child. The specialist explained the FDA has not approved medications for her child’s symptoms at such a young age and starting medication so young would put her child at risk.

The member was thankful to have consulted with a top specialist who had more knowledge to help her better understand her child’s diagnosis and treatment path for the future.
